    Single-Phase Motor Fires: Fault Identification

Single-phase motors run inside most household appliances. Each has a start system and a thermal protector meant to stop overheating before it becomes a fire. This course shows how that protection fails, and how to investigate a burned motor.

    You will learn:
    - How a capacitor-start motor works, and why its capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.
The five failure clusters: thermal overload, locked rotor, insulation breakdown and arcing, start system failure, and mechanical failure.
    - The bench tests for the windings, insulation, start capacitor, centrifugal switch, and thermal protector.
    - How to strip a burned motor in a 3D examination lab and work its cases.
    - How to split any motor finding into its mechanical and electrical parts.
