Forensic Engineering Ethics: Evidence, Analysis & Technical Integrity (Course 3)

This course focuses on how forensic engineers interpret, analyse, and communicate evidence within an investigation, particularly when the information is incomplete, conflicting, or under pressure.

You will explore how technical decisions are shaped by factors such as scope boundaries, testing choices, and the language used in reporting. Through applied scenarios and analysis exercises, the course highlights how small decisions can influence the direction of an investigation and the strength of its conclusions.

You will examine key risks including scope creep, selective testing, and narrative-driven reasoning, and develop the ability to recognise when analysis begins to move beyond what the evidence can support. The course also explores professional disagreement and what it means to maintain independence when conclusions are challenged or when pressure is applied to simplify findings.

Rather than focusing on arriving at a single answer, this course emphasises disciplined thinking, transparency, and restraint. The goal is to produce work that is technically sound, clearly justified, and defensible under scrutiny.
